Abstract
An optical waveguide-type hydrogen sensor has been developed especially for use in hazardous areas such as oil refineries. The all-optical hydrogen sensor is expected to be intrinsically safe, since any electrical or electronic type sensor always runs the risk of igniting the excess hydrogen with a small electrical spark and possibly causing a serious explosion.
