Fluorescence quenching to measure oxygen concentration

Abstract

The method of fluorescence quenching is used to measure the concentration of molecular oxygen. The method is rapid, is reversible, and does not consume oxygen. The method may provide the basis for a unique biomedical sensor. The key to developing such a device lies in the choice of a fluorophor/polymer composite matrix which has the desired optical and transport properties.
