Abstract

When a fluorescent material is excited, it radiates over a 4π solid angle. If it is placed a distance y from an optical fiber face, the amount of fluorescence which is collected by the fiber is strongly dependent on the value of y.1 This is the principle of operation of the fluorescence displacement transducer.
