Abstract
Optical fiber interferometric sensors (OFIS) have been primarily developed to act as transducers for measurands such as acoustic pressure waves in which the frequency spectrum of the output signal is of prime interest.1 There is, however, a growing interest in developing OFIS for quasi-steady-state variables such as temperature or displacement– measurands of particular interest to the process control industry. Interferometric sensors, whether implemented in a conventional or all-fiber form, are not ideally suited for such applications because it is generally necessary to recalibrate them on initialization–for example, following power interruption; this problem arises because of the periodic nature of the interferometer's transfer function.
