Abstract
Two prototype optical hydrophones which use high-birefringence optical fiber are described. The frequency response of the two hydrophones is shown in Fig. 1. These hydrophones are prototype devices for a new class of passive optically sampled and optically multiplexed sensor.1 Optical frequency multiplexing is desirable since a single fiber can be used to access a number of sensors. Fiber sensors that are optically poled require mechanical antialiasing filters to remove high-frequency acoustic components.
