Integrated-Optic Modulator for Electromagnetic Field Sensing

Abstract

Electromagnetic fields may be detected using a fiber-coupled integrated optical modulator. Such a device eliminates electrically conductive leads which perturb the field to be measured. With fiber-pigtailing,1 the sensor may be located far from the laser source. The radiation is detected at a dipole antenna connected to electrodes on the LiNbO3 modulator surface, as indicated in Fig. 1.
