Abstract

A novel method for phase birefringence measurement is theoretically analyzed and experimentally demonstrated. By using the chirped pulses, the local birefringence could be directly measured based on local time delays of reflected Rayleigh traces between slow and fast axes. The birefringence measurement resolution is up to 2×109
