First Experimental Verification of Improved Decoding of Staircase Codes using Marked Bits

Abstract

Experimental validation for improved staircase decoding via marked bits is shown for the first time. Using a single-span hybrid-amplified recirculating loop experiment, we demonstrate reach increases of up to 240 km.
