Experimental Demonstration of SDN-controlled Variable-rate Fronthaul for Converged LTE-over-PON

Abstract

We introduce the concept of variable-rate fronthaul and provide experimental validation over PONs. Our SDN controller dynamically modifies the wireless cell bandwidth depending on load, thus varying the fronthaul rate with sub-second end-to-end reconfiguration times.
