Impact of Spontaneous Guided Acoustic-Wave Brillouin Scattering on Long-haul Transmission

Abstract

We measure forward optical scattering coefficient of thermally excited acoustic modes of modern submarine transmission fiber to be −32 dB/Mm. We estimate 0.6dB of Q-factor penalty in our testbed due to this effect.
