Maximization of the Achievable Mutual Information using Probabilistically Shaped Squared-QAM Constellations

Abstract

Probabilistically-shaped QAM constellations are compared to uniformly distributed ones in terms of maximum values of achievable mutual information, showing that the potential gain depends on both target transmission rate and reference constellation cardinality.
