Abstract

A three-mode exchanger composed of symmetric and asymmetric directional couplers is proposed for mode-division-multiplexing system. Theoretical design shows low-loss and highly efficient mode exchanging is possible. Fabricated device exhibits successful mode exchanging for LP01 mode.
