Performance Comparison of Advanced Modulation Formats for Transoceanic Coherent Systems

Abstract

We experimentally compare the performance of probabilistically-shaped 64QAM (PS64QAM), 64APSK, 64QAM and 32QAM in terms of both SNR and mutual information for transoceanic distances. We show that PS64QAM outperforms all other formats.
