Abstract

We present the scaling of the nonlinear interference noise with the number of modes in SDM systems where the transmitted modes propagate in the regime of strong mode-mixing in the presence of modal dispersion. We show that mode mixing is highly beneficial in terms of reducing the nonlinear interference noise and increasing the achievable transmission rate.
