Characterization of Thermal Frequency Modulation of a DFB Laser Using Digital Coherent Detection

Abstract

A 7.5-ns time constant is observed in thermal frequency modulation of a DFB laser. Such a fast thermal effect should be taken into consideration for directly modulated and coherently detected optical communication systems.
