Abstract

Since inception silica based optical fibers have demonstrated dramatic attenuation reduction from 20 dB/km to 0.1460 dB/km. Ultra-low level of attenuation is enabled by silica core fiber design and reduction of the largest attenuation component - Rayleigh scattering.
