Optimized 4 and 8 Dimensional Modulation Formats for Variable Capacity in Optical Networks

Abstract

We present enhanced modulation formats optimized for nonlinear performance over a range of spectral efficiency. Maximum transmission distance is improved by > 600 km at PM-8QAM capacity and by > 3500 km at PM-BPSK rates.
