Record-Low (0.1460 dB/km) Attenuation Ultra-Large Aeff Optical Fiber for Submarine Applications

Abstract

Record-low attenuation of 0.1460 dB/km is measured on a silica-core fiber with 148 μm2 effective area. Other span loss characteristics are also discussed and quantified, such as ultra-low attenuation after cabling and splice loss reduction.
