Improving Hardware Protection Switching in 10Gb/s Symmetric Long Reach PONs

Abstract

We report results of PON protection switching tests based on analytical models and hardware implementation. We compare re-activation times of GPON and X-GPON. We also propose protocol extensions and improvements for 10Gb/s symmetric Long-Reach PON.
