Experimental Study on Multimode Fiber Amplifier Using Modal Reconfigurable Pump

Abstract

A two-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier is experimentally characterized. Mode dependent gain is measured for different pump modes, and the results are compared with theory. We verified that higher-order pumping can help reduce mode-dependent gain.
