Mode Division Multiplexed Transmission with a weakly- coupled Few-Mode Fiber

Abstract

We review mode-division multiplexing highlighting the possibilities of weakly-coupled systems: hybrid optical/digital mode separation and reduced receiver complexity. A recent experiment of 5 mode transmission over 40km demonstrates the potentials of this technology.
