Spectral Shaping in Ultra-Dense WDM Systems: Optical vs. Electrical Approaches

Abstract

This paper reviews spectral shaping techniques allowing to increase the spectral efficiency of WDM optical systems by reducing the spacing between subchannels. Two different approaches are compared, based on shaping in optical or electrical domain.
