Optical transmitter with 1060 nm VCSEL for low power interconnect

Abstract

An optical transmitter composed of a 90-nm CMOS driver and a high efficiency 1060nm VCSEL is characterized. The 10Gb Ethernet eye mask specification is met with a +33% margin with 1.7 mW/Gbps power consumption.
