Abstract

We report an application of new vector model of fiber Raman amplifier to characterize randomly varying birefringence in long single mode fiber. We find that analysis of the polarization dependent Raman gain can be used for the measurements of beat and birefringence correlation lengths and the polarization mode dispersion value. The results for averaged PMD parameters are consistent with the values obtained by means of the Jones matrix eigenanalysis method.
