Backward Raman Amplification in Randomly-Birefringent and Spun Fibers

Abstract

The vector interaction of a counter-propagating Raman pump and a signal is numerically solved for randomly birefringent spun fibers. High gain enhancement and reduced variance are attained even for large polarization mode dispersion.
