Loss and bandgap analysis in air-core photonic bandgap fiber for IR transmission

Abstract

We show that loss is minimized at an air-filling factor of 0.8 with a refractive index of 2.4 in photonic bandgap chalcogenide fiber (λ = 4 μm). This air-filling factor also corresponds to the maximum relative bandgap.
