RF / IP Hybrid Network for Video Delivery Over FTTP

Abstract

There are two network architectures touted for video delivery in a FTTP network: CATV-like video over RF using the 1550 nm PON enhancement band, for example; or switched video over IP over the access network. Both quantitative cost models and qualitative analysis shows a RF/IP hybrid network, which uses the RF overlay for broadcast content and the IP access network for targeted content is the best architecture for delivering voice, video, and data.
