Abstract

As fiber moves to the premises for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications, a key deployment consideration will be a robust drop cable and connector solution that can withstand the stress induced at installation and the long-term impact of the outside environment. The successful design of these two components will ensure a reliable outside plant drop cable assembly that tests and performs well.

The connector design contains three components: an integral pulling eye, the adapter sleeve, and the internal connector. Since most FTTH applications receive and transmit over one fiber, the connector design is a simplex connector. It uses a standard 2.5 mm ceramic ferrule with a standard SC connector footprint. The cable design to be presented is one fiber and provides proper support for both buried and aerial installations. It is designed to work with the connector to provide the proper strain-relief.
