Abstract

We describe a rare-earth-doped optical fiber amplifier for a CWDM transmission system that uses eight channels ranging from 1470 to 1610 nm. The amplifier has a relatively simple configuration and achieved an average gain of 22.5 dB with a gain variation of 2 dB in the 1463 -1537 and 1543 - 1617 nm wavelength regions.
