High tolerance to coherent crosstalk of differential-phase-shift-keying

Abstract

It is found experimentally that differential-phase-shift-keying with balanced detection offers ~6 dB higher tolerance to in-band coherent crosstalk than on-off-keying in optical signal-to-noise-ratio limited systems. An explanation of its high crosstalk tolerance is also provided.
