Measuring Component DGD by using Polarized ASE Noise and Monitoring the Degree of Polarization

Abstract

We demonstrate a novel technique for measuring the first and second order PMD of in-line components and PMD emulators by scrambling a narrow band ASE noise source. We show that the PMD is related to the minimum and maximum DOP.
