Determination of the Birefringence Axes of Polarization-Maintaining Fibers by Pressure-Induced Periodic Microbending

Abstract

A pressure-induced micro-bending long-period grating is used to determine the birefringence axes of a PM fiber. From the change of polarization-sensitive transmission spectrum versus rotational angle of the fiber, the birefringence axes can be accurately identified.
