OSNR Margin Assessment for Optical Transmissions in the Nonlinear Regime with Forward Error Correction

Abstract

We study numerically and experimentally the OSNR margin of high-speed transmissions in the nonlinear regime. It is found that the actual FEC coding gains can be much larger than those quoted for the linear case.
