Pulse Distortion Induced by Combined Effects of PMD and PDL in Optical Transmission Systems

Abstract

The combined effects of PMD and PDL on pulse broadening are studied. We show that PDL considerably reduces the efficiency of PMD compensation, due to increased higher order PMD in the presence of PDL.
