Abstract

40-Gbit/s/ch WDM transmission links are attractive from the viewpoint of their simplicity of operation and spectral efficiency. For application to long distance transmission links, precise chromatic dispersion accommodation is essential. In installed transmission systems, chromatic dispersion changes occur as a result of temperature variation in installed fibers, which impairs transmission quality. Therefore, it is necessary to develop both a measuring and a compensating scheme that are reliable and stable.
