Abstract

As the rapid growth of the data communication traffic, the flexible and reliable network management is demanded. The optical matrix switches are anticipated as the key components in such network management. Various types of optical waveguide switches are proposed, and some of them are commercially available recently.1–3 For the switches in the optical networks, the optical crosstalk, the switching extinction ratio, and the driving power are the important parameters as well as the insertion loss.
