Abstract

L-band erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) have recently gained interest as potential candi- dates for increasing transmission capacity be- yond C-band in dense wavelength division multi- plexing (DWDM) systems. L-band amplification (1565–1605 nm) can be obtained from a conven- tional EDFA with a relatively long gain medium using high power pump sources.1–3
