Abstract
Polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) degrades system performance, especially for a data rate greater than 10 Gb/s. Dynamic PMD changes result in state of polarization (SOP) and differential group delay (DGD) fluctuations in the time domain. The dynamic fluctuations of PMD are rapid and random, this makes PMD compensation very difficult.
