Abstract

Recently, distributed Raman amplification is studied as one of promising technologies to enlarge a capacity for a long-haul optical transmission system. Raman amplification, however, has intrinsic polarization dependence in the amplifi-cation process, and it is very important to reduce a PDG (Polarization Dependence of Gain) in order to apply to practical system. We propose methodology of both theoretical and experimental optimization for Raman amplifier using PMF depolarizer.
