Abstract

Modelocked lasers present themselves as ideal multiwavelength sources in that each longitudinal mode provides a DWDM channel that is phase locked to all others.1 In addition, the channel spacing is constant as set by the driving radio frequency (RF) source. However, the phase coherence of the longitudinal modes is degraded by mechanisms such as amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), and amplitude and phase noise in the driving signal.
