Performance monitoring of optical networks with synchronous and asynchronous sampling

Abstract

Experimental measurements are made for two approaches to performance monitoring of signals in optical networks. The techniques are BER estimation by synchronous and asynchronous sampling, respectively, and we compare their performance with different signal impairments.
