Abstract
Several years have passed since optical networking has evolved from an academic curiosity to its current state of full deployment at the core of the network infrastructure. The growth of data applications has fueled the large scale deployment of these technologies into the network. Frenzied investors, startups and network operators have led the large-scale commercialization of these technologies. New services like “lambdas on demand” and “optical bandwidth commodity trading” have begun to emerge, with more to come.
