Experimental investigation of collision-induced timing jitter and pulse distortion in WDM return-to-zero dispersion-managed systems

Abstract

New pump-probe experiments quantify XPM-induced distortion in dense WDM RZ dispersion- managed transmission over standard fibre. Despite the collision-induced timing jitter, the use of appropriately dispersion-managed quasi-soliton pulses can extend transmission distances by a factor of 2 compared to NRZ- based systems.
