Abstract
We show that facet reflections in optical components induce a sine-shaped chromatic dispersion ripple. We furthermore investigate the system impact of it. We conclude that the maximum value of chromatic dispersion is not a relevant parameter as long as the frequency scale of variation of the chromatic dispersion is below the spectral bandwidth of the signal.
