PMD in single-mode fibers: measurements of local birefringence correlation length

Abstract

We report measurements of birefringence correlation length performed on long single-mode telecommunication fibers. The proposed technique is based on a polarization sensitive backscattering analysis. Results are consistent with standard differential group delay measurements.
