Novel micromechnical network elements

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Innovative optical microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) having valuableloss, speed, size and cost attributes, offer new solutions to the design and operation oflightwave network elements. The range of function and complexity achieved in opticalMEMS devices is illustrated by examples of deflecting-membrane attenuators andequalizers, single-element 1x2 switches, reconfigurable multi-channel add/dropmultiplexers, and large-scale micromechanical integrated circuit switch arrays.Full-text article is not available.
