Abstract

Ultra-long haul (ULH) all-optical transmission has been the domain of submarine systems for over 5 years. However with the insatiable demand for high capacity data pipes connecting the world's largest cities, combined with all-optical networking functionality, ULH systems are now a necessary requirement of terrestrial amplified networks.
