Abstract
Optical switches are key components for fiber optic networks such as used for restoring and rerouting traffic in the even of fiber failure, and are becoming more important for an application of optical cross connects (OXC) in all-optical networks. Micromechanical optical switches fabricated by using silicon wafer process are the most promising candidates among all optical switches because they provide good mass-productivity that results in low cost, as well as low loss, low crosstalk, small size, and good reliability.
