Abstract

Bidirectional WDM transmission systems could reduce the use of fiber infrastructure by a factor of two. The limited capacity, compared to unidirectional WDM systems, may not be a problem in most applications as the WDM systems are capable of providing extremely large bandwidth. Recently, the feasibility of bidirectional WDM transmission over a single fiber has been demonstrated [1].
