Abstract

The nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) [1] and the nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) [2] have been shown to possess optical self-switching properties [3] when they are imbalanced by an asymmetric coupler and by an asymmetrically placed gain element, respectively.
